USSI markets current and previous configurations of standard Navy sonobuoys internationally through Sonobuoy TechSystems (STS) . Sonobuoy TechSystems provides customers with the most effective airborne ASW sensor capability available in the world today.International sales are subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and must be approved by the U.S. State Department.

USSI leverages sonobuoy design experience to develop custom sensors to meet customer unique requirements. Variants of standard Navy sonobuoys with enhanced performance and/or capabilities have and can be developed. For example, GPS capable sonobuoys are available. The effective development of a new sensor involves many different aspects and design tradeoffs including but not limited to: overall system compatibility; sensor element design; power source; sensor noise; deployed sensor isolation; signal conditioning; in sensor signal processing; external sensor communications; packaging; manufacturing; cost; testing; deployment; handling; and disposal. USSI has or has access to the internal and external resources (facilities, equipment, and personnel) necessary to develop advanced sensors. Transducers are devices that convert one type of energy or signal into another. Acoustic transducers are the fundamental sensor elements used in sonobuoys. In sonobuoy applications, these elements either convert electrical energy to mechanical motion (projector element), convert mechanical motion to electrical signals (receive element) or project and receive.

USSI has the resources and expertise necessary to cost effectively transform customer requirements into working transducer solutions.  This includes modeling, rapid prototyping, and instrumented real world testing.
